Esther's QT Proverbs 25: 21-22 If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty give him water to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head, and the Lord will reward you. According to Adeline's acronym, SPECK, i guess it should fall under command... Well, I guess the command is obvious, nevertheless, i shall analyse this the E.lit way. There is a paradox in the first verse, because there is a contradiction in what would be expected. As human beings with sin, when we see our enemy(ies) in distress, we would gloat at them and enjoy the sight of being tortured. However, God tells us that when we see our enemies, we should help them, and "in doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head". Thus, we, as christians, should learn to love our enemies and help them out in their times of need "and the Lord will reward you." The phrase "heap burning coals on his head" can be interpreted in two ways: 1. You will make the enemy feel bad and guilty towards you. (hence you have triumphed over the enemy!) 2. Bring them warmth. (therefore you are a nice and obedient christian who loves and respects the Lord and follows his command.) I think it's really up to the reader to decide which way suits better. So, in conclusion, we should help out people who are in need, even those that you hate, because it will please the Lord! purplecross wrote. |
